What's IVF-ET

IVF-ET(In Vitro Fertilization-Embryo Transfer) has been an effective method to get pregnant for over 40 years. The pregnancy rate by IVF-ET were from 10 percent to 40 to 50 percent over the years. And the successful rate of the healthy pregnancy to delivering a baby by IVF-ET is above 30 percent.

IVF-ET is a process where matured follicles are extracted from the ovaries. And along with sperms, extracted follicles are put into a culture dish with nutrient fluid within an incubator. After embryos have developed in the IVF Lab for several days, one or more are selected for transfer into your uterus and if additional embryos are developing, they may be frozen to be transferred at a future time.

The process of IVF-ET

1 Use Gonadotropin releasing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, and luteinizing hormone to produce more eggs. These medications last 8-14 days within a cycle. And some might have to take these medication for two cycles of periods. Most of the time, these medication are taken through injection on day one you start bleeding.

2 HCG injection. Then 36hs later, eggs would be retrieved

3 retrieve sperms

4 Petri dish incubation

5 embryo transfer

Reasons why IVF failed

1 poor quality eggs

American Society For Reproductive Medicine states that women’s fertility starts deteriorate at the age of 32, and at the age of 37 the chance to get pregnant decrease drastically.

The most fertile age is from 24-29.

Low quantity of follicles, low estradiol, high Gonadotropin.

Poor quality eggs due to age.

Too many follicles mature at the same time which lead to increases estrogen, which affects the egg quality.

EFS:Empty follicle syndrome (EFS) is a condition in which no oocytes are retrieved from the mature follicle after ovulation induction in in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles.

Genetic factors, low bioavailability of hCG, a decrease in estradiol (E2) levels before the hCG injection, a rapid metabolic clearance, intrinsic problems of the drug, and human error19 are other causes of empty follicle cycles in which no oocytes are retrieved.

2 low Endometrial Receptivity

Every month, there is only a short period of endometrial receptivity. It is usually 6 to 10 days after ovulation, and it lasts 48hours. It is a bottleneck issue for failed IVF-ET

causes: low progesterone, the poor blood circulation in the endometrium, decreases lining membrane secretion, poor shape of the endometrium. Abortion. intrauterine adhesion syndrome, fibroid and endometriosis.

3 pelvic floor inflammation

Fallopian tubes blockage;

Hydrosalpinxa: fallopian tube that's blocked with a watery fluid. When the fluids goes into the uterus, it will affect embryo plantation. Chronic pelvic cavity inflammation.

4 immune and genetic system issues

5 emotional issues

what role does Chinese Medicine(CM) play in IVF

1 Before IVF, CM can improve the quality of life and functions of body to create a better environment for pregnancy

2 it increases the quality of follicles by stimulating ovaries to function better.

3 it increases the endometrial receptivity.

4 it prevents miscarriage
